Therapy is the process of meeting a psychotherapist or counsellor who are professionals who help resolve problematic feelings, behaviour, beliefs and their related physical symptoms.

The main goal of therapy is to use interpersonal relationship to come up with self-understanding and to also change their life.

Therapies are administered in sessions which are decided by the counsellor or psychotherapist.

Moreover, most sessions are usually around 50 minutes long every week. In this sessions, one is handed the platform to express their thoughts, anxieties and feelings related to the condition.

The therapist on the other side listens and helps the patient to look at the situation in a different, open minded and positive way.

The principle in counselling and administration of psychotherapy is never to give the patient a solution but to rather guide them on the way to create a solution for themselves so they can own the changes.

Most therapy sessions do not exceed a year, but in some rare conditions they can exceed.

Types of therapy.

There are different approaches when it comes to therapy depending on the client condition. They include;

  • Humanistic
  • Cognitive Behavioural therapy; commonly CBT.
  • Family.
  • Group.
  • Psychodynamic.
  • Online help.

The counsellor or psychotherapist you visit determines what type of therapies are best for you.

In some cases, you may be recommended to attend 2-3 approaches of therapies.
